About The Pool Problem

Pool Problem is a disk attribution and governance tool for developers. It measures the flow rate of each disk-waste source — Xcode build artifacts, simulator snapshots, package manager caches — predicts when your disk will fill up, and explains why space comes back after cleaning. Instead of a one-time cleanup, it manages the inflow at the source so your free space stays at a healthy level.

Features

  • Menu bar reservoir gauge — sky-level primary readout with layered water levels
  • Disk attribution: space bills per tool, project, and recipe category (daily/weekly/monthly)
  • Refill tracking — shows why space returns after cleaning (e.g. XCTestDevices +15GB)
  • Full-disk prediction from your snapshot trend (linear fit of the last 7 days)
  • Smart cleaning with a waterline engine — dry-run preview first, honest actual-freed-byte measurement
  • Honest accounting: APFS hard-link deduplication and sparse file awareness
  • Notifications for low space (<20GB), abnormal growth, and actionable prompts
  • Full Disk Access onboarding, launch at login, and dumb/expert settings
