This privacy policy applies to SilentFeed.

Data Collection

SilentFeed is a local-first RSS reader. Your reading history — article URLs, titles, visit time, dwell time, topic scores, and keyword weights — is stored locally in the browser's IndexedDB to build your personal interest profile. RSS subscriptions, articles, and preference settings also stay on your device. By default, nothing is uploaded to any server.

File System Access

All data — your interest profile, RSS subscriptions, reading list, and recommendation records — is stored locally in IndexedDB. You can delete part or all of it in the settings page, and uninstalling the extension removes everything.

API Keys

If you enable AI-powered recommendations, your AI API key (DeepSeek, OpenAI, or Anthropic) is stored locally and sent only to the provider you configure, solely to make recommendation requests on your behalf.

Network Requests

SilentFeed only makes network requests to fetch RSS feeds you subscribe to, to your configured AI provider when AI recommendations are enabled, and optionally to a local Ollama instance (http://localhost:11434) for on-device recommendations. Browsing URLs and personal identifiers are never sent to AI providers — only the necessary feature data from your interest profile.

Permissions

SilentFeed requests the following Chrome permissions: storage (local data), alarms (background refresh), notifications (new-article alerts), readingList (your Chrome reading list), and declarativeNetRequestWithHostAccess (a local-only CORS rule so it can reach Ollama on localhost).

Third-Party Services

If you enable AI recommendations, feature data may be sent to the provider you configure: DeepSeek, OpenAI, or Anthropic. Please refer to their respective privacy policies. SilentFeed is not responsible for those providers' data practices.
